History
Shariputhra College was established in 1927 in the Pamburana area of Matara through the efforts of Venerable Sitinamaluwe Dhammajothi Thero.[1]
The school was founded as part of early educational development in the region.
The institution began with a small student population and limited staff, and expanded steadily during its early decades. Reported early enrollment figures indicate approximately 61 students at inception, with gradual increases in subsequent years.
In 1968, the school was upgraded to Maha Vidyalaya status, marking a key institutional development in its history.[2]
