History[edit]
SharpSpring, LLC was founded in January 2012 in Gainesville, Florida, by Rick Carlson and Travis Whitton.[1]
In August 2014, SharpSpring was acquired by SMTP, a global email delivery service provider based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.[2][3]
On December 1, 2015, SMTP changed its name to SharpSpring, Inc. and its stock ticker from ‘SMTP’ to ‘SHSP,’ as a move to unify all of its products under one brand name. At the same time, Carlson was named CEO of the combined company.[4]
In April 2016, the GraphicMail product was discontinued and the GraphicMail customers were migrated to SharpSpring Mail+, a new product with select marketing automation features developed as part of the SharpSpring platform. In June 2016, SharpSpring sold the SMTP email delivery service product to j2 Global, a publicly-traded technology company specializing in business cloud services and digital media.[5] In September 2016, SharpSpring had approximately 100 employees in its Gainesville, FL headquarters and relocated to Nimbus office building.[6][7]
