Shashi Nandkeolyar is an Indian civil servant and former officer of the Indian Forest Service (IFS). He serves as a Member of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), New Delhi.
Career
Shashi Nandkeolyar belongs to the 1986 batch of the Indian Forest Service (Jharkhand Cadre).
He served as Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, Jharkhand, where he headed the State Forest Department and oversaw the management of approximately 23,600 square kilometres of forest area.[3]
During his tenure, he was associated with forest governance, wildlife conservation, environmental regulation, and administrative management of the department. He also handled matters relating to personnel administration, disciplinary proceedings, and policy implementation.
He has been cited in media reports on issues relating to forest cover, wildlife conservation, and human–wildlife conflict in Jharkhand.[4][5][6]
Appointment to NCDRC
In 2026, Shashi Nandkeolyar was appointed as a Member of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC), following approval by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The appointment was made after a selection process conducted by a Search-cum-Selection Committee of the Department of Consumer Affairs.[7]
The NCDRC is the apex body under the Consumer Protection Act, responsible for adjudicating high-value consumer disputes and hearing appeals from state consumer commissions. His appointment reflects the inclusion of senior administrators with governance experience in the quasi-judicial framework of consumer protection in India.[8]
The appointment was formally notified in the Gazette of India, with effect from 16 February 2026, for a tenure of five years or until attaining the age of 67 years, whichever is earlier.[9]

As a Member of the NCDRC, Shashi Nandkeolyar has been part of benches adjudicating consumer disputes at the national level. In a 2026 ruling, the Commission directed HDFC Life Insurance to pay ₹25 lakh to the family of a deceased policyholder, holding that insurers cannot repudiate claims on inconclusive grounds after policy issuance.[10]
