The Shasta Scout is a nonprofit news website covering Shasta County, California that was founded in 2021. The Scout is known for its investigative and accountability reporting.

It made national news when Shasta County Register of Voters Clint Curtis removed the Scout from receiving press releases due it the Scout's negative coverage.

Founding

Annelise Pierce founded the Shasta Scout in 2021 after being a stringer for several local news blogs.[1] She had also worked with a civil grand jury for two years and realized accountability stories were not being covered. [2]
