Shaun Donnelly (presenter)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Shaun Donnelly is a UK-based video producer, Internet personality and former teacher who is most acknowledged for publishing the largest science[1] education YouTube channel within a national context, titled as Freesciencelessons which coincides with his rationale and underlying incentive for instigating the digital platform, which was to conclusively enable all students to receive adequate and sufficient science provision in order to assist them in collecting the most favourable results when they finally were examined in end-of-course assessments, further motivated by a fundamental principle and standard that pertains to the fact that the most optimum and genuine qualifications will subsequently prompt the individual to acquire skills and other beneficial resources which will therefore enable students to fulfill their long-term dreams and aspirations.

According to the undersigned proponent, Donnelly suggests that this should be the typical scenario regardless of one's socio-economic background in such a seemingly turbulent and volatile universe, and that one's financial situation or education accessibility should not compromise or undermine students to an extent where it appears limiting, restrictive and a psychologically burdening unconventionally, especially when it refers to the logical influence of the scientific platform as well. He remarks on this aspect of life when he suggested that "education leads to social mobility. Therefore, every student deserves outstanding teaching, no matter where they live, where they go to school, or how much money they have".

Early life[edit]

Donnelly was born and raised in the United Kingdom, and witnessed the disproportionate standards of living between those who were enrolled into private institutions or were relatively wealthy and those who were obliged to attend public schools, and this concerned Donnelly profoundly, later admitting that the endeavour was extremely poignant and momentous, and he displayed sympathy towards the most deprived communities, also commenting on the fact that he wanted an upheaval in social standards promptly, which also resulted in him being "driven by a core belief" and stating that this evoked and contributed to the start of his YouTube channel in 2013.

Donnelly was passionate about science and decided to travel along this approach, studying Biochemistry at the University of Oxford and receiving a Ph.D in the aforementioned subject,[2] before realising his true passion was to teach science, and this personal promise was maintained as he launched FreeScienceLessons soon after.

YouTube Career[edit]

Donnelly started his YouTube channel in 2013, and now publishes videos based on the UK KS4 and KS5 qualifications, the GCSE and A-level specifications attainments respectively in all 3 sciences: Biology, Chemistry and Physics, each revision video is approximately 5 minutes long. He primarily follows the AQA GCSE specification yet is optimistic about covering other exam boards too; and updates his videos on a periodic basis in the formation of a new specification or a viewer noticing an erroneous feature in one of his beneficial array of videos.

As of 2023, he has over 600000 YouTube subscribers, and is now offering the opportunity for students to physically enquire him through routine school visit applications, including a notable event hosted and acknowledged by the Government of Jersey.[3]

Trivia[edit]

Donnelly retired from teaching in 2019 in order to apparently prioritise on his exponentially expanding YouTube channel, which necessitated the demand for greater maintenance and focus, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.[4]

Each video takes approximately 6 hours to produce, primarily due to two reasons, the first being able to accord and conform to his predetermined scripts within a single attempt in order to evoke a sense of continuity and formality, the second being his video editing and animation procedures that involve utilising an iconic blue background, pictures and captions to accompany his dialogue conversely, and the associated overlay and positioning of his green screen that must also be unequivocal and consistent between recordings likewise.
