Career[edit]

After his early success he was sought after as a Project Manager, Project Designer, Search Engine Optimisation Specialist and Marketing Strategist demanding upwards of $5000 per day for his time.

But Shaun's real passion was in his own projects and this is where he operates now.  Shaun Stenning invests in, operates, builds, maintains and nurtures all projects that he is part of and this has been the key to his ever growing success over the last 13 years with businesses in Asia.

As a professional, Shaun abides by the mentality that it is each person’s responsibility to use their success, wealth, and position to help those less fortunate. Outside of his work in investing and tourism, Shaun Stenning puts his entrepreneurial talents to good use through his foundation, Living Waters Phuket Foundation (LWPF). Founded by Shaun in 2021, LWPF provides funding and financial grants to enable essential relief aid to underprivileged communities and works with charities, foundations, and government organizations to fund existing and future relief projects.

With nearly 20 completed projects and another half-dozen approved, the Foundation is able to provide relief via funds where it’s needed most. Some services include assistance with educational requirements, environmental issues, sustainable community relief, renewable energy, emergency food relief, and aiding disadvantaged and underprivileged communities. LWPF provides strong and credible aid by supporting projects focused on providing aid. Additionally, LWPF was responsible for the single largest food relief effort during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout his career, Shaun Stenning has demonstrated time and time again his knowledge and insight, especially when it comes to skills like entrepreneurship, management, accounting, marketing and digital marketing, and tourism, all of which he puts to use in his professional day-to-day operations.

Alongside his work as CEO and Investor, Shaun Stenning is also the Founder and General Manager of Living Waters Phuket Foundation (LWPF), which was responsible for the single largest food relief effort during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Shaun established the foundation late in the year 2021 in order to provide financial grants, enable essential relief aid to underprivileged communities, and generally provide aid and assistance to charities, government organizations, and foundations.

What sets LWPF apart from other foundations is Shaun’s founding precedent that all money raised goes directly to the communities that the foundation is serving. He has spent the past few years really dedicating himself to the community of Phuket and providing his neighbors with the resources they need to be successful and offering food relief to those across the island in need. Additional efforts include sustainable community relief, renewable energy, focus on environmental issues, and education requirements.

This interest in investment continued throughout Shaun's entire life

In his career as an entrepreneur and business owner, Shaun wears multiple hats. Since 2003, he has been working as an investor with Shaun Stenning Investors, and since 2009, he has been working full-time as the CEO and Founder of 5 Star Marine, where he is also an investor.

In his professional and personal life, Shaun Stenning likes to recall his favorite quote whenever times get rough: “This too shall pass.” Life can throw some pretty trying things our way, but Shaun uses this quote to remember that everything is temporary, even the pain. We don’t know how we will wake up tomorrow feeling, so rather than suffer at the moment, remind yourself that the moment will pass. He hopes to instill the same mentality in others to help them persevere, even during rough times.

Non Profit Organization[edit]

If you follow Shaun Stenning on Facebook or Instagram you’d notice that Shaun and his team are working closely with the local community to help get support to those who need it. Over the last 14 months, Shaun Stenning and his team have been donating rice, water, chicken, beef, and more to communities that have been significantly affected by the Covid 19 pandemic.

According to Shaun Stenning, “2022 marked a shift back to a more “normal” lifestyle and a return to life pre-pandemic. It was also an important year for fundraising, with the revival of in-person fundraising events, peer-to-peer meetings, and stewardship activities. Even though some of the pandemic-era habits may still linger into 2023, 2022 was a huge step forward.”

Shaun Stenning said “Nonprofits are essential, as they provide services, empower communities, and support those in need. Every nonprofit is distinct, yet all have the same goal of improving their communities. To be relevant and make a more significant impact, keeping up with the changes influencing fundraising is a necessity for nonprofits. Staying informed of the latest nonprofit fundraising trends can help an organization remain current and support overall growth. As the year comes to a close, here are the top three trends that will be beneficial to nonprofits in 2023.”

We have built 5 Star Marine as a family business, I don’t know how many staff we are now, almost a hundred staff, but we have managed to keep that family feel because we wanted to invest, invest in what is the most important part of a team which is “The Team”. That’s the most important part of our company, and so we invest in them, we spend time with them, and we train them, but we do more than that, we care for them, they are our family. We have family dinners, we have staff parties, we have training events and everything that’s going on in our staff lives we want to know about, so we can help them to go on to the next level.

My goal in this business is not for me to be the leader, I want to build leaders in my business, Thai leaders, male leaders, and female leaders and I want them to step up and I want them to show them that there’s a new way that you can run a business in Thailand, that is customer centric focused, that is all about the experience. Our tagline is “Experiences the 5 Star Marine difference” and the reason is that 5 Star Marine is all about the experience.

Our team takes care of you all the time, they will be in the water with you pointing out the different coral, pointing out the fish, serving you fresh fruit, whatever you want, whatever you need, we have requests from honeymoons to proposals, to 50th wedding anniversaries, to 40th birthdays, we have post-wedding parties, you name it we have done it. We want you to go back with an experience that you’re never going to forget, that’s what to me is the goal of 5 Star Marine.

Phuket Marine Industry Moves Forward On Safety[edit]

Several of Phuket’s top boat tour operators, along with government and safety officials, signed a Memorandum of Understanding and pledged to implement several new safety measures after the most recent big marine safety event, named “United for Marine Safety,” on January 15, 2024.

An immediate reaction was taken to the incident, which was mostly coordinated by 5 Star Marine (CEO Shaun Stenning) and supported by some of the largest boat tour companies on the island, following the death of a 5-year-old Russian child on a boat tour at Koh Maithon on December 31.

Shaun Stenning, the CEO of 5 Star Marine and the primary organizer, contends that the status quo must be swiftly altered in response to years’ worth of fatalities, crashes, and “near misses” in the industry.

The tour boat industry leaders in Phuket have agreed to the new guidelines included in the MOU.

The following actions will be taken to achieve the aforementioned objectives:

Drug Analysis

EVERY employee of a Marine Industry Company must submit to a drug test before beginning work. Before starting employment at a company, a candidate must provide a negative test result.

Life Jackets

EVERY boat must have an adequate supply of life jackets that adhere to strict guidelines.

Guidelines

EVERY boat crew member, guide crew member, and engineering staff member is obliged to complete a First Aid Training course once a year.

Arrive to the rescue

Future planning will include a strategy for the quick transportation of victims using jet ski boats in areas where incidents occur frequently.

About 300 people attended the event at the White House in Boat Lagoon.

Phi Phi’s Wonders by Shaun Stenning[edit]

According to Shaun Stenning, The main hub for tourists is Phi Phi Don, the largest and only permanently populated island in the Phi Phi archipelago. Discover the bustling Tonsai Village, which has a variety of stores, eateries, and a fun nightlife. Enjoy water sports, wander along the main beach’s magnificent white beaches, and take in the vibrant environment that is unique to Phi Phi Don.

Shaun Stenning said, As your journey of island hopping takes you, don’t forget to stop at Viking Cave on Phi Phi Leh. This captivating natural artwork, named after the old wall murals that resemble Viking ships, is located in a cave. The breathtaking limestone formations and the vivid blue waters around the cave create an unforgettable spectacle, even though entrance to the cave itself is restricted.

Shaun Stening said, A trip of Phi Phi’s island hopping would not be complete without a stop at the famous Maya Bay. This bay, which starred in the film “The Beach,” is well-known for its pristine white dunes and glistening turquoise waters surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. The bay has been restored in recent years to maintain its natural beauty, and although it is closed for two months each year, the majesty of the surrounding area never ceases to astound.

Phuket Marine Safety 2024[edit]

Last 15th January 2024 major marine safety event, titled “United for Marine Safety” ended with many of Phuket’s leading boar tour operators, government and safety officials, signing a Memorandum of Understanding, and committing to a range of new safety measures.

Shaun Stenning organized this event in actions to the death of a 5-year-old Russian child on a boat tour at Koh Maithon on December 31. However, the main organizer and CEO of 5 Star Marine, Shaun Stenning, claims that the existing quo needs to be changed quickly in reaction to years' worth of fatalities, collisions, and "near misses" in the sector.

According to Shaun Stenning, “As a parent I am hoping that tonight’s commitment between the industry and island officials will save at least one life… then all my efforts have been worth it. The recent incident at Koh Maithon was a wake-up call for the entire industry to unite, introduce new safety procedures and commit to enforcing existing rules.”

The above goals will be accomplished by undertaking the following activities:

  1. Drug Examination
  2. Life Jackets
  3. First Aid Training course.

There were about 300 guests at the White House in Boat Lagoon for the occasion, which included Sophon Suwannarat, the governor of Phuket.

Living Waters Phuket Founder[edit]

Shaun Stenning has lived and invested in businesses in Phuket, Thailand for over 15 years prior to becoming a founding member of Living Waters Phuket. Shaun decided along with his family that during the 2019 pandemic that there was a great need for emergency relief in Phuket.

Phuket is a tourism-based island and with the shutdown of international and domestic tourism Phuket’s residents were in dire need of help. The way that Shaun decided to help was to use his business, staff, and network to pack and deliver “Life Bags” across the villages of Phuket.

This project started out in one of Shaun Stenning’s spare rooms in his house. For 12 months Shaun, his staff, and friends would pack life bags to deliver to the needy across Phuket. As the pandemic stretched into its second-year others came to help.

As a result of this the packing and delivery operation Shaun Stenning was operating grew bigger and bigger. From a few hundred life bags a day to thousands of life bags a day. The single largest pack that Shaun and his team organized was 8000 + Life Bags which provided over 120,000 daily meals.

During the 2 years that Shaun Stenning lead this Emergency Relief Effort over 1,000,000 life bags were packed and delivered across Phuket.

As the pandemic started to move towards an endemic and tourism started to recover Shaun decided that the life bag project should end and the focus of his Relief Efforts in Phuket should adjust.

This is where Living Waters Phuket was founded as a foundation that was focused on the long-term recovery of Phuket. Shaun Stenning remains involved in the foundation, but now there is a board of directors guiding the foundation in Phuket Thailand.

Shaun just spent a week travelling around Thailand visiting the different projects that Living Waters has done in the last 12 months.

From the Slums of Bangkok, to the Hill Tribes of Northern Thailand to Seeds of Change in Phuket.

Seeing the families, the kids, the schools that we help was touching for Shaun and his family.

In this blog post, we'll explore the numerous ways in which helping your community can have a positive influence on both you and those around you.

This helps build a sense of belonging and fosters strong, meaningful connections.

2. Creating a Safer Environment: Active community involvement can lead to safer neighborhoods. When residents work together to address local concerns, such as crime prevention or disaster preparedness, everyone benefits from a more secure and comfortable living environment.

Shaun Stenning Annual Charity Birthday Bash[edit]

Over 130 friends and family from all over Phuket headed out for a day of dolphin watching, snorkeling, beach games, and of course FUN for the 5 Star Marine Phuket annual Charity Birthday Bash

On Saturday the 7th of October the pier at 5 Star Marine was buzzing with over 130 people looking forward to a day out with 5 Star Marine Phuket. Breakfast was on hand as well as face painting and balloon animals and everyone was ready for the annual Phuket charity event. There was no fee to come to the event, all we asked was that people donate what they wanted to our amazing charity Living Waters Phuket.

Everyone was ready to go and after a short brief from Shaun Stenning the boats filled up and off, we went to the first stop, dolphin watching and snorkeling at Maiton Island.

Its easy accessibility from Phuket, coupled with its natural beauty and a plethora of recreational offerings, makes it a must-visit destination for those seeking a day of adventure, relaxation, and exploration in the enchanting waters of southern Thailand, and especially if you are a young family.

But enough of the sales pitch.

After a few hours on the beach, it was time to head back to Boat lagoon.

It was a fantastic day and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone that came and supported the amazing Living Waters Phuket.

We shall see you all next year for the 5 Star Marine Phuket annual Charity Birthday Bash

Shaun Stenning Budget Friendly Health Tips[edit]

Shaun Stenning said, “There’s a common misconception that in order to make healthy choices in your life, you need to have money. After all, buying organic food, gym memberships, vitamins, and other health and fitness items will cost you more than you think.”

I wanted to explore different ways to still be healthy on a tight budget. First, I’d like to offer budget-friendly health tips for your diet.

Budget-Friendly Health Tips

Drink more water.

It’s natural, it’s free, and best of all, it’s healthy. Water is beneficial for everything from your digestive tract to your skin. For a healthy twist, add lemon, lime, or cucumber slices for a hint of natural flavoring. Shaun Stenning said.

Eat breakfast.

When you’re rushing around in the morning, breakfast can easily get overlooked. But eating breakfast is beneficial for both your health and your wallet. Studies show that if you eat breakfast, you’re starting your metabolism which is improving your digestive system and can help you maintain a healthy weight.

Buy in season.

Certain fresh fruits and vegetables can be a little pricey, but you will find that those that are in season are much cheaper than things that aren’t.

Skip the junk food.

Shaun Stenning said, This sounds like a no-brainer, but yet, the chip and snack isle is still the most popular aisle every time I’m in the grocery store. Everyone likes an occasional guilty pleasure, but keep it as a rare occurrence.

Stock up on healthy foods during sales.

When there is a healthy food you enjoy, watch for it to go on sale. Items like almonds, baked chips, frozen vegetables, and canned tomatoes are healthy and have a long shelf life, so you can buy a bunch without having to worry if it’s going bad.

Learn how to read labels.

Something at your grocery store may appear healthy, but you might be shocked to learn that’s just the way it’s marketed. For example, the term “Made with Whole Grains,” can literally be made with a tiny, minuscule amount.

Grow your own garden.

If you’re looking for a new hobby, try gardening. With your own garden, depending on your climate, you can grow a multitude of vegetables, herbs, and fruits for less than what it costs to buy them at the store. Having these fresh, healthy ingredients will make it much easier to cook and eat them.

It all started with Lucus 1.[edit]

5 Star Marine started off as a boutique private tour company.

1 Boat, 1 Crew, 1 Guide.  For every other position in the company, that was me.

Mechanic, Fuel Delivery, Accountant, Sales, Marketing, Customer Service.  All of it.  Plus I went on every single tour.

Things have changed over the last 5 years.  We’ve added more boats, more guides, more captains, more crew and now have a full office team.

But one thing has never changed.

Our commitment to our customers experience.  The MOST important thing in our company is HAPPY GUESTS.

Everything else comes second.  Hopefully that comes through when you are onboard with us!

Shaun Stenning Tips for Starting Your Own Charity[edit]

According to Shaun Stenning, “Many people are drawn to the idea of starting a nonprofit, but it is not as easy as it seems. While the goal is usually to bring about a beneficial change in the world, many nonprofits make it seem like an effortless process. Establishing a charity requires a great deal of skill and knowledge, as well as time, effort, and money. The reality is that starting a charity is anything but easy. Nonetheless, don’t be disheartened; there are still ways to make it happen with the right resources.”

If you have a cause that you are passionate about and have done all that you can do on your own to support it, it may be time to start your own charity to extend your efforts to a larger audience. Establishing a charity can be a huge project, but there are basic steps that you can follow to ensure that your charity is successful from the start.

Define Your Mission It is important to determine why you want to start a charity in order to focus your efforts. Narrow your scope and create a unique mission statement that is different from similar charities. Your mission should provide a more concrete description of your purpose, clearly and concisely outlining what your organization does, for whom, and the basic services it provides. Further, a set of values should be established to provide a guiding light for your organization’s decisions.

Choose a Name When choosing a name for your charity, consider your options wisely, as it is important to select something that is easy to remember and unique. Double-check with your state’s list of existing organizations and the Department of Commerce to make sure the name isn’t taken. A name that conveys the mission of the charity can be effective, but naming it after a specific person can also be a great way to motivate people to support your cause.

Register With the IRS In order to become a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, you must file paperwork with the IRS and register with the Secretary of State if necessary. It is beneficial to seek counsel from a lawyer and an accountant with experience in the nonprofit sector to ensure that all of the proper steps are taken, as each state has different regulations. Start Your Website A website is essential for any organization as it serves as a window to the world, allowing you to explain your mission and get others excited about your work. Be sure to include a detailed “About Us” page, a page with information about volunteering opportunities, and a place for visitors to donate directly. Consider investing in a custom website specifically for your organization.

If you’re unable to afford professional help, try a DIY web builder. Ultimately, your website will serve as a powerful advocate for your mission. Begin Fundraising Your first fundraising effort should be aimed at getting your name out in the community and gaining some crucial funds to begin operations. Reach out to your friends and relatives, as well as grassroots organizations, individuals, and foundations.

Consider a single, visible event, or start small by leveraging your social media presence and affiliate links. Bear in mind that this process may take a great deal of time and effort. Depending on the size of your goals, you may need to raise enough money to cover several months of operating costs before you can begin your charity work. Spend Efficiently Instant success is a rarity in the world of nonprofits, so you should be as efficient and cost-effective as possible while you build up your fundraising and support. Treat each dollar you spend as if it is your last, and make sure donations go towards helping the cause. Expansion should be done at a rate that is supported by fundraising.

Utilizing online donations and making the most of office supplies, staff, and space can help you ensure that the majority of donations go to the cause. Survival is key for any organization, and success requires discipline and patience.
