Biography[edit]

After graduating from Texas State University-San Marcos with his B.A. in Communication Studies, he completed his Master's in Communication at George Mason University[2] in Fairfax, Virginia. Turner served as an officer in the Marine Corps for 21 years[3] before beginning his civilian career, chairing the Information Operations Department[4] at the Daniel Morgan Graduate School of National Security in Washington, D.C. He also worked in several positions in the federal government between 2010-2015, including Assistant Press Secretary of Foreign Affairs for the National Security Council, U.S. National Intelligence Director of Public Affairs, and finally as Deputy White House Press Secretary under President Obama[5]. Subsequently to his government work, Turner joined national strategy firm Mercury as its managing director in 2014[6].

In recent years, he has turned his focus to consulting for CNN and independently for MPACT Communications, of which he is CEO and founding partner[7]. He also serves as the Director of Communications at Washington D.C.-based think tank Center for a New American Security.
