Shambrica "Shaye" Washington (Damus)is an American business owner and fashion designer in the state of Colorado who went viral after a video captured the moments when she helped her daughter perform a song on stage at her school's talent show.

Early Life[edit]

Washington was born in the state of Louisiana in the city of Ferriday. [4] She and her family would eventually move to the state of Colorado where she has lived for most of her life. She lives with her family in Colorado Springs. She has three children: one daughter named Makayla Ferrell, and two sons.

She is an alumni of Fountain-Fort Carson High School and University of Columbia Southern University.



Washington had a military career at United States Air Force. She worked as one of the program managers at the Air Force for a number of years.


Washington is the owner of her own business called, Tiny Toes and Tiaras, which houses her couture brand Piccoli Couture.

Makayla's Talent Show[edit]

On April 11th, 2018, Washington attended her daughter's talent show and appeared in a video which would go viral for the way that she helped her daughter finish her song.[1][2] Makayla sang the song, "Rise Up" by Andra Day when all of the sudden she stopped singing.[3] The audience watched and held their breath in silence as Washington began to help her daughter with the song.

The video has since received more than 7,130,479 Views.[citation needed]

Shaye is the first African American Flower Girl Dress Designer to be feautured in Vogues "Brides Magazine."[citation needed]

Shaye Washington (Damus) has had a tremendous impact on the homeless industry with her philanthropy work.[citation needed]

As of April 2018 Shaye Washington has been Nominated for the Mother of the Year Award[citation needed] (A yearly award given to outstanding American Mothers who has a huge impact on society. The award was established in Georgia in 1973)
