Sheela Mackintosh-Stewart is a family solicitor specialising in family law[1], a media commentator on family law issues and relationships[2][3][4][5][6][7] and a campaigner. Mackintosh-Stewart has been referred to as a 'Relationship Guru'[8][9] and 'Relationship Expert'[10] by the UK media.

Personal[edit]

Mackintosh-Stewart (nee Kaur Magherra) was born in Singapore and is of mixed Chinese and Sikh heritage. She was raised in Malaysia and Singapore before settling in the UK.[11]. She grew up in rural parts of Malaysia including the Pahang jungle, Bukit Ibam, Mersing, and Johor Baru. She has three siblings, one sister and two brothers. Mackintosh-Stewart is married to James Stewart CBE. She has two daughters, Alexandra Mackintosh and Elisabeth Mackintosh.

Legal Career[edit]

Mackintosh-Stewart has a background in law and is the Founder and Managing Partner of iFamiliesUK, a family law firm, with a focus on conflict management and mutually amicable settlements post-separation[12]. Mackintosh-Stewart is also a matrimonial consultant at the International Family Law Group[13] and Jackson & Lyon LLP.[14]

Campaigner[edit]

Mackintosh-Stewart co-founded and co-chairs the Conservative Friends of the Chinese (CFOC), with Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP, to promote the British East Asian diaspora and Chinese - UK relations, and has hosted events with Cabinet Ministers [15] [16][17]. She has predicted that the British Chinese diaspora will grow to over one million and expressed concerns of increasing hate crime linked to the COVID-19 pandemic [18]. Mackintosh-Stewart was previously also an advisor to the All Parliamentary Party Group on East Asian Business[19].

In 2013, she co-founded Diaspora Talent[20] as a development programme for young leaders interested in the British Chinese diaspora with the aim to the UK post-Brexit. [21]

In 2009, Mackintosh-Stewart co-authored the Breakthrough Britain: ‘Every Family Matters’ Report,[22] advocating measures to strengthen marriages and reduce family break-up, on behalf of the Family Law Policy Reform Group for the Centre for Social Justice.

Broadcasting and Media Commentary[edit]

Mackintosh-Stewart is a regular media contributor on the topics of marriage breakdown, relationships and families, including writing a number of bylines for the Huffington Post[4], City A.M [23] and writing commentary for The Mail Online[24], The Times[6] and the Financial Times[3]. She also contributes on legal commentary for Lawyer Monthly Magazine.[25]

She regularly speaks on policy and relationships, including for the ‘Parenthood’ Podcast on ‘How to tame your teenager’ with Marina Fogle[26], MailOnline on ‘How to deal with your husband’s mid-life crisis’[27], About Time Magazine on ‘Love, Lust, Dating in London.[28], the Big Tent Ideas Festival 2018[29] and the Institute of Directors on International Women’s Day 2020.[30]
