Sheladize(شێلادزێ)

Sheladize (kurdish: شێلادزێ, romanized: Şêladizê) is a Subdistrict in Duhok Province in Kurdistan Region.

Şêladizê subdistrict was originally a village belonging to the Doski tribe who settled there around the 19th century. The name of Sheladize comes from its geography where two rivers flow, the Avaşîne River and the Great Zab River. The word Sheladze(Şêladizê) comes from Şêl-a-do-zê – it means “two rivers” in Kurdish. After the 1988 migration, the villagers of the surrounding tribes (Doski, Rekan, Nerva) came to Sheladize and settled there. In 2012, Sheladize was recognized as a district of Duhok province. The population is now estimated at about 50,000. Sheladize is the largest district in Iraq in terms of population. Sheladize village is now located in the center of Sheladize as a large cultural archaeological site called Old Sheladze. Sheladize has a beautiful mountainous nature and tourism. Lots of interesting places and relaxing views. Sheladize also has its own Kurdish culture and dialect. The population of Sheladize consists of Kurds, and their dialects are of the Badini-Kurmanjin family. Many talented and famous personalities have emerged in Sheladize in different fields that have served the Kurdish people, culture and society.
