Shell Shockers
Shell Shockers is a First Person Shooter browser game developed and published by Blue Wizard Digital, a Canadian Indie game company founded and run by PopCap Games cofounder and Bejeweled creator Jason Kapalka. Players control eggs that armed with a variety of weapons.
Shell Shockers is free to play[1] and its low poly graphics help it run on a Chromebook, a type of inexpensive laptop commonly provided in classrooms. It has become popular primarily among students who play it at school.[2] However, the game has sparked some controversy among educators due to its use as a classroom distraction, with some calling for it to be banned from schools entirely.[3]
Development[edit]
Blue Wizard Digital initiated development on Shell Shockers in August 2017. It is in active development and continues to be updated regularly as of July 2021.
As of early 2021, Shell Shockers is also available as a mobile game on iOS.[4][5]
Community[edit]
An active player-founded and -run Esports community, Shell League, is dedicated to competitive Shell Shockers play.[6] The league runs a Twitch channel[7] and a set of Discord servers, including a "pre-league" for more junior players as well as local "Shell League Europe" and "Shell League Oceania" servers for League players in these areas. It is common to find YouTube videos featuring gameplay.
The Shell Shockers player community also maintains a fairly comprehensive Fandom wiki devoted to the game.[8]
