Shelly Bhalla
Shelly Bhalla is an Indian-American actor,[1][2] most popularly known for her role on CW's Jane the Virgin.[3][4]
Early life and Education[edit]
Bhalla was born in a suburb of Maryland outside of Washington, D.C.. She is the daughter of Indian immigrants and has one brother. Bhalla's father died when she was just a teenager.[5]
She is trilingual, and Hindi is her first language.
Bhalla is a graduate of the Stella Adler Studio Conservatory in New York City.
Career[edit]
In 2015, Bhalla was cast as Krishna on CW's Jane the Virgin.[6] Bhalla proudly played one of the first gay Indian female characters on television.
She has appeared on many television shows, including Jane The Virgin,[7] American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson, 9-1-1, Speechless, Two Broke Girls, American Housewife, Hand of God, General Hospital, and Stitchers.[8][9][10]
In 2015, Bhalla was cast in an episode of American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson.
Philanthropy[edit]
In 2017, Bhalla began to work and volunteer with Experience Camps. She now volunteers with them yearly and works with the organization on outreach, as well as serving on their Diversity and Inclusion Board.
