Shem Tube
Shem Tube (born 1932) is a Kenyan vocalist and musician. He was a member of Abana Ba Nasery.
Music career
Together with guitarist and vocalist Justo Osala Omufila and Fanta bottle percussionist Enos Okola, Shem Tube introduced the traditional music of Kenya to the international stage. Performing as Abana Ba Nasery (the Nursery Boys) during the 1960s and 1970s, Tube helped to popularize luhya omitubo, a style of music marked by rhythms provided by two guitars and a soda bottle and three-part vocal harmonies. Although Tube and Omufila formed an electric benga band, Les Bunyore, in the 1980s, they joined with Okola to re-form Abana Ba Nasery in 1991. They recorded their first album in more than a decade, Go Ahead, in England with accompaniment by British folk musicians.
