Sherman Raskin (born January 27, 1937) is a retired professor and actor, known for his roles in the films Take a Giant Step (1959) and The Tiger Makes Out (1967),[1] as well as for his long tenure as a faculty member and administrator at Pace University.
Early life
Raskin was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. He graduated from James Monroe High School in 1954.[2] He earned his BFA in acting from Columbia University in 1958 and his MA in English, also from Columbia University, in 1961.[3]
Career
Acting career
Early in his career, Raskin was an actor. He trained at HB Studio, under the tutelage of Uta Hagen. He appeared in two films, Take a Giant Step (1959) and The Tiger Makes Out (1967). In addition to a variety of television commercials and soap opera appearances, Raskin was in a 1963 episode of the DuPont Show of the Week, “Ride with Terror” (Season 3, Episode 9).
Academic career
Raskin was a longtime professor of English and Publishing at Pace University.[4] During his 55 years at Pace, he served in numerous administrative roles—most notably as chair of the English Department, founding director of the MS in Publishing Program, and founding director of the Pace University Press.[5][6][7]
Personal life
Raskin has been married to Paula (Fishbach) Raskin since 1964.[8] They have two children and three grandchildren.
