Shigeru Shimoyama
Shigeru Shimoyama (Japanese: 下山茂 ; born 1949) is a Japanese journalist and author known for his books about Islam and his participation in the formation of the Islamic Center Japan.[1] His Muslim name is Abdul Karim (Japanese: アブドゥル・カリーム).[2]
Personal life
Shimoyama was born in Okayama Prefecture, Japan. In 1969, he enrolled at Waseda University where he studied politics and went on a one-year expedition to Sudan.[2]
Career
After graduating, he read Islamic texts and was asked to support the Islamic Revival Movement, and he converted to Islam at age 27.[1][2]
He published several books about Islam and works at Tokyo Mosque as a publisher and public relations head.[1][2][3]
