Shin Bo Mi Rae (Korean: 신보미레; born April 6, 1994) is a South Korean professional boxer.[4] She is a multiple-time champion, having held the Super Featherweight title since 2019,[1][6] the Asia-Pacific Super Featherweight title since 2022,[1][6] and the International Super Featherweight title since 2022.[1][7]
Shin challenged for the WBC Silver Super Featherweight title in 2023, losing a close split decision to former world champion.[8][9] In March 2025, she challenged for the WBC World Lightweight title, losing by majority decision in a bout praised for its action.[10][11]
Early Life
Shin was born on April 6, 1994, in Seoul, South Korea.[4][5] She trains at and is associated with the Singil Boxing Gymnasium (신길권투체육관) in Seoul.[12][13]
Professional Boxing Career
Shin made her professional debut on March 19, 2016, at the Simsan Culture Center in Seoul with the Korea Boxing Association. She won the four-round bout against Seul Gi Jeon by unanimous decision at minimumweight. She fought Jeon again in a rematch one month later, which ended in a four-round draw.[14]
Over the next two-and-a-half years, Shin built her record fighting in South Korea across multiple weight classes, including lightweight, featherweight, and welterweight. By the end of 2018, she had amassed an undefeated record of 8 wins, 0 losses, and 3 draws.[14]
Championship Ascent (2019–2022)
On March 17, 2019, Shin faced Rupinder Kaur at Bexco in Busan for the vacant WIBA World Super Featherweight title.[14] She won the 10-round bout by unanimous decision to capture her first world title.[1][6]
After several more bouts, Shin won her first regional title on February 19, 2022, in Hongcheon, South Korea.[6][15] She defeated Chandni Mehra of India by an 8th-round technical knockout (TKO) to win the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific Super Featherweight title.[6][14]
Her success continued in 2022 when she traveled to San Antonio, Texas, for her first professional fight in the United States.[12][14] On May 21, 2022, she defeated Iranda Paola Torres by unanimous decision to win the vacant WBC International Super Featherweight title.[14][16] She actively defended the WBC International title, recording TKO victories against Asami Nakai in September 2022[17] and Napaporn Ruengsuwan in November 2022.[14] She made her third successful defense in February 2023 with a unanimous decision win over Diana Rodriguez.[14][7]
World Title Challenges (2023–Present)
Bout vs. Delfine Persoon
On May 28, 2023, Shin challenged former long-reigning world champion for the WBC Silver Super Featherweight title.[8][12] The fight took place in Persoon's home country of Belgium, at the Sportcentrum Van steenland in Torhout.[8][14] Shin lost the highly competitive 10-round bout via split decision.[8]
Despite the loss, Shin's performance on enemy territory was widely praised. The World Boxing Council (WBC) later selected the bout as its "2023 Dramatic Match of the Year."[9] One media report noted that a referee had scored six rounds in her favor, and the performance significantly elevated her standing in the division.[9]
Bout vs. Caroline Dubois
Following her increased international profile from Physical: 100 and a series of TKO wins, Shin secured the most significant fight of her career.[18] On March 7, 2025, she challenged undefeated champion for the WBC World Lightweight title at the in London.[10][14] The fight was the co-main event of a card broadcast on.[19]
Dubois controlled the early and middle rounds with superior speed and effective body punching.[11][19] However, Shin demonstrated significant grit, "stalking" Dubois around the ring and mounting a "spirited surge" in the latter half of the fight.[10][19] The final round was described as a "captivating brawl" where both fighters traded punches at will, bringing the crowd to their feet.[10][20]
Shin lost the 10-round bout via majority decision (MD).[11][10] Judge Jae Bong Kim scored the fight a 95–95 draw, while the other two judges scored it 98–93 and 98–92 for Dubois.[19] Despite the loss, Shin's performance solidified her reputation as an exceptionally durable world-level competitor. A ringside report from FightPost concluded, "Even in defeat, she leaves the Royal Albert Hall a winner."[20]
Fighting Style
Shin fights from an orthodox stance.[5] Her style is characterized by a "gritty" approach, relying on forward pressure and durability.[21] In her bout against the southpaw Caroline Dubois, she was noted for "stalking" her opponent[10] and attempting to "paw away" Dubois's lead hand to create openings for her "long straight right hand."[19] While she is praised for her toughness and willingness to "brawl,"[10] analysis from her world-level bouts has noted that her defense can be porous, as she often absorbs numerous shots while attempting to land her own.[21]

Appearance on TV
Outside of boxing, Shin gained significant international recognition in 2023 as a contestant on the Netflix reality competition series Physical: 100.[23] She was a semi-finalist who reached the final 20 contestants, and her appearance on the globally popular show significantly raised her public profile.[7][9]
Physical: 100
In 2023, Shin was a contestant on the inaugural season of the Netflix survival competition series Physical: 100.>[23] The show brought together 100 contestants with diverse athletic backgrounds to compete in a series of grueling physical challenges, or "quests."[24]
After finishing the Hanging challenge, Shin Bo Mi Rae chose Choi Hyun-Mi as her opponent for the Death match challenge "Lose it and you Lose". Physical: 100. Season 1. Netflix. 2023.. She chose Battle Arena B and wrestled Choi down for almost the entire 3 minutes just to make a strategic run for the ball in the last few seconds and eliminating Choi.
Quest 4 and Elimination
Shin advanced through the initial quests to the semi-final stage (Quest 4), becoming one of the final 20 contestants.[7] In this quest, the remaining competitors were divided into four teams of five, which had to compete in a series of five challenges based on classical myths.[4]
Shin's most notable moment on the show came during the team's internal selection for these challenges. Her team was eliminated during this quest, but viewer commentary praised her "incredibly selfless" act of volunteering for "The Punishment of Atlas."[25][26] This challenge required a contestant to hold a large boulder (estimated to be at least 50 kg) on their shoulders for as long as possible.[26][27]
As noted by other contestants and viewers, Shin "quickly assessed her team" and recognized that while she was not suited for the agility- and endurance-based running challenges, her teammates were. She "took one for the team" by volunteering for the Atlas challenge, a pure strength-endurance test she was not favored to win, thereby sacrificing her own game to give her team a strategic advantage in the other events.[25][26] She was the first on her team eliminated from the quest but was widely lauded for her sportsmanship and self-sacrifice.[25]
