Shione Yukawa (湯川 潮音, born December 19, 1983) is a Japanese singer-songwriter and actress. She hails from Tokyo. She made her major debut in 2005 under EMI Music Japan.
Her grandfather is Taiwanese[1], and her father is Toben Yukawa, a former Kodomobando bassist. She is affectionately called "Shione" among some fans, including on 2channel. She graduated from Myōjō Gakuen Junior & Senior High School. Among her classmates is Anna Tsuchiya.
Biography
At the age of 4, she auditioned and joined the Tokyo Boy and Girl Choir. At 16, she participated in Ryuichi Sakamoto’s opera "LIFE a Ryuichi Sakamoto Opera 1999". In 2001, as a member of the Tokyo Boy and Girl Choir, she contributed chorus to N.M.L.’s "Zero Landmine".
She participated in the tribute album Disney Age@D_100 Cafe commemorating the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney’s birth.
In 2002, she released her indie album tide & echo. In 2004, she released her first original full album Gyakujōga-ri no Kuni produced by Soichiro Suzuki.
In 2005, she received songwriting contributions from Hanaregumi and Kuri’s Shigeru Kishida, and made her Major debut with "Midori no Āchi / Hadaka no Ōsama". She also debuted as an actress in the film Rinda Rinda Rinda. Her second single, "Candle Light," was produced by James Iha, former guitarist of The Smashing Pumpkins. In 2006, she released her major 1st album Yukawa Shione. In July of the same year, she published a book titled Fūka Kuushin which compiled a blog written with Miki Saito on J-WAVE’s website.
In 2007, she released the single Gingham Check no Kotori, which was produced with the intent of being used as a song for NHK's "Minna no Uta". After returning from a short study abroad in Ireland and London, she began composing her own songs.
In 2008, she held the "Gray and I Tour" with the band Sentimental City Romance, active since the 1970s. In September 2009, she returned to the UK, recorded a cover album "Sweet Children O'Mine" centered on rock band covers, and released it in December.
In November 2010, she released her 4th original album Crescendo.
In 2013, after three years, she released the album Nure Nai Onpu from P-Vine.
