ShipMonk (BedaBox LLC, d.b.a. ShipMonk) is an American third-party logistics (3PL) company specializing in assisting the growth of small to medium-sized businesses by outsourcing various aspects of the order fulfillment experience. Besides providing a comprehensive warehousing solution, the company has developed its own order, warehouse, and inventory management software that is able to sync with over 45 seller platforms, such as Shopify, eBay, and Amazon.

ShipMonk is headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with two other facilities in San Bernardino, California and Pittston, Pennsylvania and a development office in the Czech Republic.[1] As of 2020, ShipMonk employs over 650 people with further plans to scale.[2]

History

ShipMonk was founded in 2014 by Jan Bednar, who, at the time, was a student at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. A few years prior, Bednar had left the Czech Republic to further his education in the United States. Soon after moving to the States, his friends and family began requesting that he send them products from American stores, which were often unwilling to ship overseas.[3]

At first, ShipMonk functioned under BedaBox LLC as a package forwarding business. Driven by the budding success of his newfound company, Bednar entered and won two business plan competitions: the FAU Business Plan Competition and the Florida Venture Forum Collegiate Competition. Shortly after, Jan was accepted to Florida Atlantic University’s collegiate accelerator program, FAU Tech Runway.[4]

In 2015, approximately a year after BedaBox’s inception, Bednar made the decision to gradually switch gears from package forwarding to order fulfillment after realizing the industry’s immense potential. In the same year, the company opened its first warehouse and began hiring its first employees.[5] In 2016, BedaBox was officially rebranded as ShipMonk, complete with the launch of its own proprietary order, inventory, and warehouse management software.[6] The company continued to experience steady growth, increasing its revenue by 2,900%, from $130,000[7] to $3.9 million,[8] in just two years.

In 2017, the company upgraded its headquarters to a new 80,000 sq. ft. location in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The same year, ShipMonk opened a second warehouse in Redlands, California. In 2018, ShipMonk received its first funding—$10 million from a Series A investment, which has gone untouched as of 2020.[9]

In 2019, the company opened its third fulfillment center in Pittston, Pennsylvania. Later that year, ShipMonk upgraded its headquarters once again, this time to a 220,000 sq. ft. location in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where it is currently situated.[10]

Services

ShipMonk has made a name for itself due to its focus on innovation, being the first 3PL with multichannel fulfillment services powered by a proprietary eCommerce management platform. Core functions include inventory, shipping, order, and warehouse management with software plug-ins for live shipping rates and branded shipping tracking. ShipMonk’s software has over 70 native integrations from shopping carts to returns processing and disposition options.

The company provides comprehensive fulfillment services for B2C eCommerce stores, subscription boxes, crowdfunding campaigns, and B2B retail.[11] In addition to offering standard services, like warehousing, picking, packing, and shipping, the company is also able to execute more complex tasks, such as kitting, bundling, and prepping inventory to meet various shipping requirements.

Partners

ShipMonk partners with a wide array of companies, including, but not limited to, Shopify, Amazon, Cratejoy, BigCommerce, Optoro, Returnly, Walmart, Passport, and Skubana. It also has a close working relationship with shipping carriers like USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL.
