John Shownmi, better known professionally as Shojon (/ʃəʊ ʤɒn/), a British musician, sound engineer, and entrepreneur from the Royal Borough of Greenwich south-east London.[1]

Early life[edit]

Raised in south-east London, he learned to play keys at a local youth center, attended weekly choir rehearsals, and grew up listening to Oxide and Neutrino.[2]

Career history[edit]

Shojon started his musical career as an engineer in 2006 recording songs for local artists Blinkie and Bluey Robinson. In 2007 he engineered “One Day I Went To Lidl” by Afrikan Boy, which gained over a million views on YouTube. In 2020 included in GRM Daily’s “11 of the funniest parody rap tracks.”[3]

He mixed Saskilla’s album “The Yonder Experience” hosted by DJ Semtex, released on Datpiff 29 December 2011. [4]

Shojon released his debut single "Theorem" mastered at Abbey Road Studios first as a lyric video on 12 February 2020.[5][6] The music video produced by FEUD Creative and directed by Craig Heathcote was released on Shojon’s VEVO 27 November 2020 receiving awards for Best Music Video and VFX.[7][8]

Shojon advocates for mental health volunteering through Time to Change (mental health campaign).[9]

Philanthropy[edit]

Shojon alongside music artist M Dot R created SP Studios Sheerness in Kent to provide work experience with the Prince's Trust.[10] He co-managed “Music Business & Performance” youth workshop for Woolwich Tramshed In2Music program funded by Youth Music and aided in the creation and launch of RTM FM community radio in Thamesmead funded by Peabody Trust in 2018.[11] Shojon programmed a 48-hour segment weekly to provide a platform for local creatives.[12] He created the fundraising campaign “Chocolate for the Mind”, and commissioned chocolate bar “Shojon Bar” in aid of Mind (charity). [13]
