The Shooters Network (formerly Gunbook)[2] is a social media platform for people interested in guns.[3][4] The website was created under its original name Gunbook in March 2018 by British gun enthusiast and shooting instructor David Scott after his friends were banned from Facebook for posting pictures of their firearms on the platform.[2][3][5] The website has been criticized by Anti-gun activists who have called the website "tasteless".[3]

Scott intends for the website to be for people who want to talk about guns without being judged by friends or family, as well as for people who want to buy and sell guns.[3] Similar to Facebook, users are allowed to create profiles, add friends, create groups and photo albums as well as pages, but unlike Facebook, it is "free from the restrictions that other social networks impose" on the topic of guns and shooting.[4] Also unlike Facebook, the website does not track people's activities nor does it keep personal data.[4]

In July 2018, Gunbook rebranded itself and changed its name to the Shooters Network after Facebook's lawyers threatened legal action against the website.[2]

Statistics

By March 22, 2018, the website had more than 1,000 members, with around 60 being from the United States.[3] By July 7, 2018, the website had more than 4,000 members.[2]
