Cannon Hinnant was a five-year-old American boy from Wilson, North Carolina. On August 9, 2020, he bicycled onto his next-door neighbor's property. The neighbor, Darius Sessoms, a 25-year-old man, allegedly shot the boy at point-blank range at 5:30 pm.[2] At the time, Hinnant was playing outside with his two older sisters. He was taken to Wilson Medical Center where he died from his injuries.[3] The motive for the shooting is unknown.[2] Sessoms was arrested within 24 hours and subsequently charged with first-degree murder.[4][5]
Hinnant's funeral occurred on August 13, 2020.[6] A GoFundMe page created by his family has raised over $690,000.[7]
