Overview[edit]

Sideqik is one of the early influencer marketing platforms. The company was initially registered as Buzztastic LLC, a custom software development agency, in Georgia on October 31, 2011, by Jeremy Haile. The company pivoted to focus on building SaaS software to assist with marketing partnerships and influencer marketing when Kurt Uhlir joined as CEO and co-founder in June 2012.

History[edit]

Sideqik was founded with a mission to help B2C and B2B companies identify micro-influencers who were already fans of the brand and unlock the ability for those brands to market with and alongside these influencers to a wider audience. This strategy aligned with Uhlir’s established marketing strategy of making customers the superheroes of the brand’s marketing philosophy.

In its early years, Sideqik, when still Buzztastic LLC, produced social media marketing software and customer marketing campaign technologies for numerous brands, including movie and other entertainment launches. After Uhlir joined the company, the team went through the startup incubator Flashpoint at Georgia Tech in the Summer and Fall of 2012.

Between Q4 2013 and Q1 2014, the company raised an initial $1 million round of capital from angel investors including Bee Partners, Rincon Venture Partners, and a group of prominent angel investors. Tremain “Tree” Mcglown later joined as head of business development in late 2013.

From 2012 to 2016, the company successfully launched, becoming the platform of record for marketing teams in the eSports, gaming, and nutrition industries. Customers included top brands such as CBS Interactive, BenQ, Harmonix, HyperX, Hansgrohe, KontrolFreek, Supply.com, MuscleTech, and dozens of others.

The company raised an additional $5 million in funding in March 2019. On July 6, 2021, Engine Media acquired Sideqik.

Competitors[edit]

Sideqik's competitors included ReadyPulse, Mavrck, TapInfluence, NeoReach, Gleam.io, Traackr, Speakr, InstaBrand, Linqia, and parts of larger platforms at Oracle, Adobe, and others. Niche, acquired by Twitter in 2015, and Branderati, which was acquired by Sprinklr in 2014, were additional competitors.

Media Coverage[edit]

Sideqik has been covered by various media outlets, including Agency Spotter, Hypepotamus, Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC), Tech.co, Thrive Global, School for Startups Radio, Open View Partners, Business Radio X, Website Magazine, Linkdex, KillerStartups, Forbes, and the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
