Sidewalk Radio is a monthly, 25-minute, special feature on Atlanta radio station WMLB AM 1690 "The Voice of the Arts" that discusses life in the modern city by exploring physical and cultural development through the lens of history and in the context of community. Creator & host, Gene Kansas, sits down with a variety of artists, architects, designers, developers, planners, and preservationists to give insight into the way people live in and enjoy their city.
History[edit]
Sidewalk Radio first aired September 2010 with host Gene Kansas covering the limbo state of the iconic Clermont Lounge, and the Clermont Hotel. Since its launch, the show has covered topics ranging from Freedom: The Journey from Civil War to Civil Rights, How To See Art, and Hollywood South – the impact of the film industry on Georgia's economy. Featured guests have included: U.S. Congressman John Lewis, poet Pearl Cleage, artist Radcliffe Bailey, and Chairman Emeritus of the Atlanta Braves Bill Bartholomay. The show continues to air on AM 1690 on the fourth Monday of every month at 6:30 and 8:30.
About the Host[edit]
Gene Kansas, originally from New Orleans, is a writer, an entrepreneur, and a self-described urban explorer. Kansas has lived in Atlanta since 1995, where he began his career as a content developer for TNT. Kansas, a published author since the age of 21, currently serves as President of Gene Kansas | Commercial Real Estate as well as Creator and Host of Sidewalk Radio.
