Sidney A. Diamond (born October 17, 1914) was an American lawyer and government official who served as Commissioner of Patents and Trademarks from 1979 to 1981.[1][2][3][4]
Early life and career
Diamond was born in New York City, received a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College, and earned a law degree from Harvard Law School. He practiced law in New York and Washington, D.C., and served in the United States Department of Justice from 1943 to 1946.[2]
Patent and Trademark Office
President Jimmy Carter appointed Diamond assistant commissioner of trademarks in 1978 and later commissioner of patents and trademarks. Diamond took the oath as commissioner on November 29, 1979. The USPTO describes him as the first trademark specialist to head the office.[2]
Writing
Diamond wrote about trademark law and advertising law. His columns in Advertising Age formed the basis of the book Trademark Problems and How to Avoid Them.[2]
