Although Sultan Izz-al-din ascended the throne in Konya and streamlined the affairs of state, the presence of Malik Kayqubad in Ankara Castle still disturbed the sultan. Sultan Izz-al-din would not be able to achieve peace and conduct state affairs unless he solved this matter from the root. Therefore, the Sultan formed an army by summoning his orders to Konya with destructive machines. After the Sultan gathered the army, he quickly marched on Ankara and besieged the castle in the spring of 1212. Although the sultan was determined to take the castle, the siege lasted quite a long time. When winter came, the sultan had a house and barracks built for the soldiers and animals. He built a madrasah here and swore to dedicate foundations to it if he succeeded. Likewise, this madrasa was used as a headquarters during the siege. As a matter of fact, the long siege started to make Malik Kayqubad uneasy. Kayqubad met with Malik Al-Zahir and offered to reconcile with his brother. But the Sultan said that he would only accept him if he surrendered. Thereupon, Kayqubad met with the notables of Ankara and they declared that they would do whatever he said, but there was no other solution but surrender. Kayqubad surrendered in the spring of 1213 to be spared for the life and property of himself and the people of the city. Kayqubad, who was caught immediately, was sent to Malatya and then to Kezirpert Castle and imprisoned. Thus, Sultan Izz-al-din completely dominated the Seljuk country.[1][2][3][4][5]
