The Siege of Pondichéry of 1693 saw troops of the Dutch East India Company besiege the French garrison in Pondichéry as part of the Nine Years' War. The governor of Dutch Coromandel Laurens Pit the Younger sailed with a fleet of 17 ships and 1600 men from Nagapattinam and bombarded Pondichéry for two weeks, after which François Martin surrendered it.[1] The Dutch sent all European soldiers in French service and personnel of Pondichéry back to France. At the Peace of Ryswick it was agreed by all parties to return conquered territories and in 1699 Pondicherry was handed back to the French.
