Sightline is a sports betting and casino payments specialist[1] and bespoke mobile app developer for the legalized gaming industry. Headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada, the company is transforming the gaming industry through its integrated suite of solutions by paving a path towards a smoother omnichannel customer journey.[2] Its solutions enable gaming operators to offer cashless payments and white-label casino mobile apps, which provide an omnichannel journey for its guests, giving them the ability to spend anywhere, earn rewards anywhere, and customize their experience.[3] The company is Nevada’s first fintech unicorn with a valuation topping $1 billion.[4]

History

Sightline was founded in 2011 by Omer Sattar, Tom Sears, and Kirk Sanford with the mission of extending a safe, seamless payment method for gaming consumers. The company initially offered its services to gamers in New Jersey, where online gaming was legalized in 2013. Sightline was well-positioned to expand nationwide when the federal ban on sports betting was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2018.[5]

Payment industry veteran Joe Pappano joined Sightline in 2020 as president of the Americas.[6] In September 2021, Sattar and Pappano became the company’s co-CEOs with Sattar overseeing internal operations and Pappano focusing on strategy, sales, and client success.[7]

In June 2021, the Nevada Gaming Commission approved cashless payments.[8] One year later, Resorts World Las Vegas opened on the Las Vegas Strip, becoming the Strip’s first casino to enable guests to pay cashless for anything onsite, including slots and tables play—powered by Sightline’s solutions.[9]

After Sightline successfully petitioned the Nevada Gaming Commission to change the state’s gaming regulations regarding remote identity verification, a single wallet user experience, and biometric authentication, Resorts World Las Vegas launched the second generation of its cashless experience in November 2022 using Sightline’s Mobile+ and Play+ technology.[10]

Company Financials

The company is Nevada’s first fintech unicorn with a valuation topping $1 billion.[11]

Notable Investors

In December 2020, Sightline announced a strategic investment from Searchlight Capital Partners, valuing the business at $525 million.[12]

Cannae Holdings, led by William P. Foley II, announced in April 2021 a $32 million investment in Sightline, fulfilling a commitment totaling $100 million in funding.[13] When interviewed on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street, Foley said, “Sightline really represents the next generation of gaming solutions…It’s cashless approach to brick-and-mortar casinos, we believe, is the next evolution of gaming within America.”[14]

Sightline announced in August 2021 it raised $244 million in a new round of fundraising, increasing its valuation to over $1 billion, involving Cannae Holdings and existing investors Genting Group, Point Break Capital Management, and Walter Kortschak.[15] With this capital raise, Sightline achieved unicorn status—one of approximately 700 startups worldwide to earn a $1 billion+ valuation as a private company.[16]

In October 2022, Sightline announced the company secured a new investment from JP Morgan Payments. As part of the investment agreement, Sightline will work with JP Morgan to develop an integrated omnichannel solution for resort and online gambling companies, serving the resort, entertainment, and lodging ecosystem.[17]

Products & Services

Sightline’s flagship product, Sightline Pay, supports cashless gaming at casinos where consumers can place their funds in a secure account and use them with more than 80 Sightline partners in sports betting, lottery, horse racing, and online and brick-and-mortar casino markets—all while earning loyalty rewards for their spending.[18]

Sightline Pay allows patrons to use a single digital payment method across all gaming channels and throughout the resort after placing their funds in a secure, FDIC-insured account. Funding can be made through multiple sources, such as a bank card or PayPal. Patrons can also have instant access to their winnings through a co-branded debit card, which can be used everywhere the card network is accepted, as well as by adding their card to their mobile wallet on their smartphone. Sightline’s cashless solutions are also seamlessly integrated into casino management systems and can be integrated into any existing loyalty program.[19]

Sightline’s mobile solutions offer gaming operators a platform to engage with patrons in highly personalized, interactive, and useful ways. It lets operators offer patrons a fully customizable app, via Sightline Mobile, providing them access to all casino/resorts services and able to track and apply loyalty across entire properties. In addition, the platform is integrated into casino management systems and point-of-sale systems, while also giving gaming operators the ability to view advanced analytics, locate patrons, and send targeted offers and messages while patrons are either on or off-site.[20] Sightline Mobile, formerly known as JOINGO, was acquired by Sightline in June 2021.[21]

The company’s mobile and cashless solutions can be combined in one powerful “super app”[22] that creates a smoother, more customer-centric omnichannel experience for patrons regarding how they fund and pay for their activity, book entertainment and amenities, as well as earn rewards for spend during their stay and play.

Sightline believes a successful omnichannel strategy is built upon the foundation that someone’s money and loyalty rewards should be tracked and applied across all touchpoints and channels of engagement on and off the casino floor, including all gaming verticals.[23]

The company developed and patented SPAN, which is the gaming industry’s only payment processing network that connects guests, financial institutions, game system platforms, and integrated resort operators—solving the last mile to any gaming device or hospitality system. SPAN is a payment ecosystem experience that is fast, reliable, secure, and unique.[24]
