Dave Matheny founded Silencer Shop in 2010. The company earned $19,000 in revenue within its first month of operations and reached $1 million in annual revenue by 2013.[2] By 2016, the company sold approximately 3,000 silencers per month.[3]

Silencer Shop Kiosk

In 2016, the company introduced identity documentation kiosks at partnering firearm dealerships. The kiosks are designed to facilitate the collection and storage of demographic data required by law, such as fingerprints.[4] The company has distributed more than 1,200 kiosks across the country.[5]

Advocacy

Silencer Shop is the top financial sponsor of the American Suppressor Association,[6] a lobbying group which advocates reduced restrictions on suppressors. In 2020, the group succeeded in overturning a ban on the sale of firearm suppressors to private foreign buyers.[7] The company also sponsors the Second Amendment Foundation.[8]

Silencer Shop CEO Dave Matheny is a member of the American Suppressor Association's board of directors.[9] He has publicly commented on the ATF's NFA application process, claiming that the process hinders people from exercising their rights by imposing a burden of time and money.[10] On March 18, 2015, he testified before the Texas House Legislative Council on HB989, a law clarifying Texas state laws regarding NFA ownership.[11]

Matheny and the company have both donated to right-leaning PACs.[12]
