Silverstream Technologies
Silverstream Technologies is a maritime clean technology company based in London, England. Founded in 2010 by Noah Silberschmidt, Silverstream Technologies produces a patented air lubrication system[1] (ALS), the Silverstream System, for application within the global shipping industry[2].
Silverstream Technologies' air lubrication system spreads a layer of microbubbles across the flat bottom of a vessel in the boundary layer, reducing frictional resistance between the hull and the water[3].
As of February 2022, Silverstream has a headcount of 60 staff comprising marine, engineering, data science and other related disciplines. The company has offices in London and Shanghai.
Global Industry Alliance
In 2017, Silverstream Technologies became a founding member[4] of the Global Industry Alliance (GIA), an initiative of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) that brings companies together to focus on energy efficiency in the maritime industry. The consortium reviews energy efficiency technology advancements, operational best practices, alternative fuels and digitalisation within the global shipping sector[5]
CHEK Project
The CHEK Project (deCarbonising sHipping by Enabling Key technology symbiosis on real vessel concept designs)[6] is a European Union Horizon 2020 funded project demonstrating solutions for decarbonising international shipping. The project commenced in June 2021 and is being coordinated by the University of Vaasa in Helsinki, Finland. Silverstream Technologies is a contributing partner to the project and is advising on the implementation of air lubrication technology onboard two separate vessel designs.
