Simon O'Corra (born 25th November 1959) is a British screenwriter, playwright, author and artist. He is known as an activist, his work reflecting on issues such as equality and non-discrimination; family; hate crime and hate speech; legal gender recognition and bodily integrity; civil society space; and asylum. His works are recognised as highlighting the persecution of homosexuals in Nazi Germany.

Childhood[edit]

O'Corra was born in Goole, East Riding, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Son of John Curry and Jean Curry (née Batty).

Education[edit]

O'Corra attended Mountview Academy,Crouch End, London 1986-87 (Diploma in Theatre Design and Technical Theatre)

Adult Life[edit]

Between 1987 and 1995, O'Corra worked in set and costume design on more than 25 plays and operas in London, UK including Bloomsbury Theatre ('The Marriage of Figaro', 1987. 'Riders to the Sea' and 'Aunt Caroline’s Will', 1988), Campus West Welwyn Theatre ('L’elisir D’amore', 1987), 3 productions for Opera Holland Park Open Air Theatre (1991).

In 2017 O'Corra married his civil partner, author Nigel Bray [1], (author of Mr Lucky), in Castelnau-Rivière-Basse, France before moving to Baza, Granada, Spain

Art[edit]

'Realities of War', exploring the physical horrors endured by soldiers in the Great War (1914-1918) and this coupled with collage work points to the normality of life for people during this conflict in cartes postales and advertising from contemporary magazines. These paintings were presented at the Werklicht Gallery, Rotterdam, The Netherlands (February 2016).

'Baby Mine', (2015). 'The Maiden Queen' (2015),'The Little Cafe', (2016) were presented at The Association Les Amis de Mazeres Exhibition, Castelnau-Rivière-Basse, France (May-June 2016)
