Simon Nigel Richard Hearn (born 15 May 1958) is a British businessman who founded Per Ardua Associates Ltd, a London-based specialist financial services recruitment company, in May 2008 and was CEO for 12 years before becoming Chairman.[1]
Prior to that, Simon was a partner with Russell Reynolds Associates, the global executive search firm where he spent 16 years, finishing as co-head of global financial services.
Early life and education
Simon Hearn was born in Dorchester in Dorset, his father a war time soldier and farmer. Born and brought up on a Dorset farm, he attended The Old Malthouse Prep School (1966–1971) near Swanage in Dorset and then Milton Abbey School (1971–1976). He went on to Basic Military Training (BMT) at Catterick (1976–1977) and then attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1977 being commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards on 10th December 1977.
Career
Simon moved out to Sennelager, near Paderborn in North Germany to join B Squadron (tanks) in March 1979. He moved with the Regiment to Northern Ireland in an infantry role, serving with B Squadron in Belfast in 1980. He was posted to the RAC Gunnery School to qualify as an instructor in late 1980 – qualifying "B" Schools (allowing a return later to instruct). Simon ran armoured safety at the British Army Training Unit (BATUS) in Alberta, Canada, an all arms live fire range in 1981. Passed the Junior Command and Staff course at Warminster in August 1984 and then returned as a gunnery instructor at Lulworth for two years. He became Adjutant of the Regiment in 1987 in Tidworth and in late 1988 finished his Army career as AMA to the Adjutant General (the Army's second in command) in the Ministry of Defence after 2 years, resigning his commission in March 1990 to get into business.[citation needed]

Over the last 10 years he has been a partner at the firm and the final 6 as co-head of global financial services, the largest of the firms specialisations, based in London. Hearn resigned to set up his own business in May 2008 during the global financial crisis. The firm now specialises in insurance, consumer financial services and banking, investment and wealth management, real assets, financial officers, human resources, technology and board work. Per Ardua has now grown to 30 people with a further 20 in Leadership Advisory, their assessment and coaching business.[citation needed]
In 2016, he spoke to the Financial Post about how technology-driven changes and stronger in-house HR teams are reshaping recruitment, intensifying competition at the executive level and forcing search firms to offer more than just candidate shortlists.[2]
He spoke with Hunt Scanlon Media in 2017 and provided insight into recruitment post-Brexit and what's to come in the future.[3]

Simon lives in Hampshire and Cornwall with his wife Henrietta (Hetta). They have 4 children and 7 grandchildren.[citation needed]
