Simon Philips
Career
In 1991, Philips kicked off his licensing career in London. He worked with the British Olympic Association to license the world's first Olympic-branded video game. This game also made history as the first to feature third-party advertising. He would then create LDI, a media and entertainment company that expanded its influence across the Middle East, Mediterranean Basin, and Latin America. LDI swiftly emerged as a prominent independent licensing agent on a global scale. Philips expanded the company's ventures into broadcast media and production during this time by acquiring The Dori Media Group. After exiting LDI, Simon was appointed to the position of Managing Director for 4Kids Entertainment International. In this role, he oversaw the immensely popular multi-billion-dollar franchises including Pokémon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Yu-Gi-Oh on an international scale.
Philips served as president of Marvel Entertainment International, where he was a leadership team member that helped build Marvel into a retail powerhouse and pave the way for its sale to Disney. As President, Philips played a pivotal role in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities while enhancing and expanding Marvel's existing ventures. Throughout his tenure, he held key positions such as President of Global Consumer Products, President of Global Animation, and President of Global Gaming. Simon oversaw these divisions and served as the Executive Producer for the acclaimed animated series by Marvel. Some of the notable successes under his leadership include popular shows like Super Hero Squad, The Avengers - Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and Marvel's Japanese anime series.[1]
He later became Executive Vice-President & General Manager of The Walt Disney Company, Europe, the Middle East & Africa, where his strategic approach to bringing iconic brands to life from across the Disney, Star Wars, Pixar, and Marvel portfolio through licensing generated over $16 billion in annual sales. Philips currently serves as Managing Director, Global Consumer Products at Moonbug Entertainment, the company behind such digital-first properties as CoComelon, Blippi, and many others.
Philips currently serves as the President of Falcons Beyond, a global entertainment development company with a specialized focus on IP creation and expansion based out of Orlando, Florida.[2]
