Simon Whistler is a popular YouTube content creator. As of 2023, Whistler has sixteen YouTube channels that he either presents on or directs himself. All of his videos combined have over 2,200,000,000 views as of January 2022.[1] Fans of Whistler have dubbed his combined YouTube channels and podcasts the Whistler-Verse.

Personal Life[edit]

Whistler prefers to keep his personal life private. He speaks occasionally about his personal life during his well-known tangents in his videos, which are most common on his Brain Blaze YouTube channel.

Born in England on May 15, 1987, Whistler studied Business and Law in university. After university he began traveling and making YouTube videos about his travels. These videos were posted to his Simon Whistler channel on YouTube and have now been removed. He still frequently travels.

Whistler worked for a time in Sri Lanka utilizing his business degree. [2]Whistler met his wife who was from Prague in the Czech Republic. He moved to Prague when they were married. He has a daughter and a son.

Published Works[edit]

Whistler has self-published several books that focus on his extensive experience with narration and audio production.[3] He also had a podcast relating to self publishing called The Rocking Self-Publishing Podcast.[4] His first book Audiobooks for Indies was published in 2014 and covers how to get into narrating and editing audio books. His second book Bookstrapping for Indies is a how to about self-publishing on a budget.[5] Both books are no longer published as of January 2023.

Besides his own published works, Whistler has done the narration of many non-fiction audio books.[6]

YouTube Channels[edit]

BioGraphics[edit]

BioGraphics began on May 12, 2017. The channel presents biographic profiles of people who have influenced history. As of January 2023, it has over 2,220,000 subscribers and more than 350,000,000 views. The channel was originally co-founded by Whistler and Shell Harris and partnered with TopTenzNet.

Brain Blaze[edit]

Brain Blaze, originally known as Business Blaze, was Whistler's attempt at as business channel and was created on May 31, 2019. It quickly evolved into his least serious channel. Whistler does not review the script he is delivered before he delivers it to the camera which results in him reacting naturally to the subject as well as telling personal stories related to the subject; this format would serve as a basis for later channels, like: Casual Criminalist and Decoding the Unknown. In August 2021, the channel was renamed to Brain Blaze as business was rarely a focus of the content. Most tropes related to Whistler originated in a Brain Blaze video. [7]. As of January 2023, Brain Blaze is one of Whistler's smaller channels with 350,000 subscribers.

Casual Criminalist[edit]

The Casual Criminalist began on August 10, 2020. The channel is a longer form video podcast channel revolving around true crime stories. Videos on this channel range from forty-five minutes to well over an hour. The audio version of the podcast can be found on Apple, Spotify, Google, and Podcast Addict. [8]Whistler has gained a following on this channel due to his honest reactions to the crimes, never glorifying the actions of the criminal and trying to keep the memory of victims alive.

Decoding the Unknown[edit]

Decoding the Unknown is one of Whistler's newer YouTube channels and podcasts. The channel focuses on mysteries throughout history such as Cicada 3301 and Oak Island and tries to give real world explanations with factual scientific answers. The channel has over 200,000 subscribers as of January 2023.

GeoGraphics[edit]

GeoGraphics started on the same day as BioGraphics and focuses on highlighting interesting places around the world. As of January 2023, GeoGraphics has nearly 1,000,000 subscribers and over 100,000,000 views. This channel, along with BioGraphics, was started by Whistler and Harris and partnered with TopTenzNet.

Into The Shadows[edit]

Into The Shadows has become one of Whistler's most viewed channels. The channel debuted August 5, 2021 and has nearly a half-million subscribers as of January 2023. Into The Shadows covers the darker sides of humanity covering topics like Nakam and Tarrare.

MegaProjects[edit]

MegaProjects the YouTube channel and it's sister website MegaProjects.net were created by Whistler on March 25, 2020. The project focuses on humanity's achievements in engineering. As of January 2023, the YouTube channel has nearly 1,000,000 subscribers and over 100,000,000 views.[9]

Science of Science Fiction[edit]

The Science of Science Fiction is born from Whistler's love of science fiction movies and TV, such as Star Trek. This is currently Whistler's newest YouTube channel with it being created June 21, 2022. The channel seeks to establish how close humanity is to creating science currently only seen in science fiction movies and television in real life.

SideProjects[edit]

SideProjects is a sister channel to MegaProjects and was created five months later on August 21, 2020. This channel covers topics that are not as in-depth as the content on MegaProjects. Just like it's sister channel, SideProjects has a website, SideProjects.site to read more about topics that may be covered in videos.

Simon Whistler[edit]

Simon Whistler is the first channel Whistler had on YouTube. It was published July 8, 2015. The channel used to house his personal vlogs from his travels, but all videos have been removed besides one video regarding Pierce Brosnan. Even with no videos releasing on the channel, there are still 28,600 subscribers as of January 2023.

Simon Whistler Show[edit]

The Simon Whistler Show was Whistler's first foray into the podcast format. The channel hasn't been posted to in over two years and only retains twenty-two videos. The channel was created November 7, 2019 and had a tagline of, "A podcast for curious minds."

Today I Found Out[edit]

Today I Found Out is a channel owned by Daven Hiskey and is connected to Hiskey's website TodayIFoundOut.com.[10] Despite being the face of the YouTube channel, Whistler is not listed on their website as a contributor or employee.

TopTenz[edit]

TopTenz was created by Shell Harris for their website TopTenz.net February 10, 2010. The company is still active, but the website is no longer linked on the YouTube channel. [11]The channel has nearly 2,000,000 subscribers as of January 2023.

Warographics[edit]

Warographics is a channel that focuses on war related topics such as War in Ukraine and tactical nuclear weapons. The channel was launched October 20, 2021 and has nearly 300,000 subscribers.

Xplrd[edit]

Xplrd is a now defunct channel that was active from October 23, 2020 to November 23, 2021. The channel did not focus on a single topic and would publish videos about various interesting topics that were also posted on the sister website, Xplrd.net.
