The Sinai Tribal Union (STU; Arabic: اتحاد قبائل سيناء) is a pro-government[1] militant organization founded in either 2015 or 2017[1][2] by the Egyptian Armed Forces (EAF) with the purpose of helping the EAF fight the Islamic State – Sinai Province (IS-SP) in Siani.[1] The group claims to be made up of Sinai’s 24 tribes[2] and is armed by the EAF, although, its existence has not been officially acknowledged by the army despite it being well-known. Although the group has committed multiple war crimes, such as the arresting of civilians and burning of pows, the government has not issued any decrees regulating them.[1] The groups also does scouting and provides the military with intelligence military[3]
