Sini Sanuman
Sini Sanuman is a Malian non-profit, created in 2002 to stop female genital mutilation (FGM) and other forms of violence against girls and women.
It is based in Bamako, with partners around the country.
In December 2024, Mali outlawed FGM. To make this news known, Sini Sanuman produced a poster, put radio shows on the air, got an article in a major newspaper, Les Echos, and made the law a major topic at the many public meetings it leads.
The office of Sini Sanuman is in the House of Hope, which also houses its medical office and training center.
It is the founder of the Pledge Against Excision, a promise never to have a girl excised. As of 2026, over 85,000 signatures had been collected on the Pledge Against Excision, which were given to the government in 2007 and 2015.
As of 2026, 180 excisers have been convinced to stop practicing FGM by members of Sini Sanuman and some of them are serious spokespeople for the cause.
Twenty-two villages have abandoned FGM with the encouragement of Sini Sanuman and their ceremonies have been put on Malian radio and television.
In 2000, they produced the album Stop Excision and subsequently made 5 music videos of anti-FGM songs, which have played many times on Malian TV.
Sini Sanuman has produced 4 posters and billboards against FGM over the years.
