Sins of a Divine Mother was an American industrial rock band from Van Nuys (Los Angeles), California. The band's lineup consisted of guitarist and lead vocalist Wylie Biechler, drummer John Magness, former Bang Tango bassist Kyle Keiderling, and keyboardist Danny "Odyssey" Parker. They are best known for their song "Broken" which went unused for the Shadow The Hedgehog (2005) video game soundtrack.
History
The band was formed sometime in the year 2001 and later launched their own website in 2003.[1] On March 14, 2003 the band released small teasers of their 4 song demo ep before putting the full songs up for download on April 28, 2003.[2] During this period, members Wylie Biechler and John Magness would aid in the production of Orgy's third studio album "Punk Statik Paranoia", with Biechler providing additional vocals, guitar and Magness providing addition drums, synth work.
Members Danny Parker and Kyle Keiderling would go on to form the band Apocalyptic Agency (A2) the following year, Eventually being renamed to Mona Lisa Overdrive in 2009.[3]
On October 10, 2004. The band created a myspace page to help with promotion of the new material, which featured more snippets of the previously released songs "Tick", "All Of Me", "Complicate Me", and "Broken".
In 2005, The band was contacted by Sega musical director Jun Senoue, who wanted to use the song "Broken" for the soundtrack of the upcoming Shadow The Hedgehog video game, but was unable to get permission from Biechler who swiftly vanished from the public due to multiple run-ins with the law. Remaining members Parker and Keiderling offered to create a new song to be used in place of "Broken", which eventually became the song "The Chosen One" that was used for the game's semi-hero ending theme.[4]
The band later disbanded that same year in the wake of Biechler's absence.
In 2017, Their unreleased selt titled debut was uploaded onto SoundCloud by Magness' son, Jake Magness[5], who would later release it onto streaming services in 2023 through DistroKid[6]. The album featured 3 additional songs "Overshadowed", "Falling Out", "Break Me" alongside the ones from before.
In 2024, The band released a 20th anniversary remaster of their self titled debut. Distributed through Magness' own label Jemini Productions[7].
