From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Sioen Industries is a Belgian textile manufacturer and a diversified Group.[1] with three divisions and an extensive portfolio of products and activities[2]: spinning, weaving, and coating of technical textiles, manufacturer of professional protective clothing and producer of fine chemicals. The company head office is located in Ardooie. Michèle Sioen is the current CEO.

History[edit]

The history of the company goes back to 1907, where Adolf Sioen started a weaving mill in Rumbeke with the name Sioen-Sabbe[3]. This weaving mill was later managed by his son Daniel Sioen. In 1960 Jean-Jacques Sioen found a company for producing technical (coated) textiles in Beveren. His wife, Jacqueline, was co-founder[4] of the company Sioen Industries and started an apparel workshop in 1967 in Roeselare for manufacturing heavy-duty clothing for industrial use.

In 1977 the company moved to a new site in Ardooie, after it outgrew its buildings in Beveren and Roeselare. In the 1980s the company expanded into other countries such as France, Ireland and Tunisia. In 1991 the production plant in Ardooie was destroyed by fire[5], being rebuilt two years later in 1993.

In 1996 the company was registered on the Brussels Stock Exchange[6] reaching a turnover of 85 million and employing 1500 people. By 2006 the company turnover had reached 339.4 million Euro and employing 4687 people in 38 subsidiaries in 14 different countries. By 2017 the turnover had reached to 363.4 million Euro with a net profit of 26 million Euro. Since 2019 the turnover has reached over 500 million Euro[7].

In the last decade, Sioen has made several acquisitions, including the UK based James Dewhurst Group for 44 million pounds sterling in 2017.[8]

2020, Sioen announced to go off the stock exchange. This will be Official May 31 2021
