Sione Ikamafana Tuku'aho (10 February 1994) is the second son of Prince Fatafehi 'Alaivahamama'o Tuku'aho and a member of the Tongan Royal Family.
Biography[edit]
Sione Ikamafana is the second son of Prince Fatafehi 'Alaivahamama'o Tuku'aho and the Hon. Alaileula Tuku'aho. He has three siblings:
- Sitiveni Tuku'aho; and
- The honourable Salote Maumautaimi Tuku'aho; and
- The honorable Etani Ha'amea Tuku'aho.
Sione Ikamafana was raised by his paternal Aunty HRH Salote Mafileʻo Pilolevu Tuita and Lord Tuita from when he was a young child.[1]
Marriage[edit]
In 2019 Sione Ikamafana proposed and was set to wed Lanu Hahau Faletau in Auckland in May 2020. However due to COVID-19 the royal wedding was postponed for three years.[2]
On 29 October 2022, Sione Ikamafana married at the St Pauls church in Auckland in a significantly reduced celebration due to COVID-19. The nuptials was the first for the Tongan royal family since the Crown Prince of Tonga Tupoutoʻa ʻUlukalala married Sinaitakala Fakafanua - with the pair being double second cousins.[3]
The wedding was attended by all senior members of the Tongan Royal Family including King Tupou VI and Queen Consort Nanasipauʻu Tukuʻaho.[4]
Official titles and Rank[edit]
His official known titles are 'Eiki Sione Ikamafana Tuku'aho, the Honourable Sione Ikamafana Tuku'aho or Prince Sione Ikamafana Tuku'aho.
Sione Ikamafana Tuku'aho is a legitimate son of royalty for both the nations of Tonga and Samoa. Although he was raised by his paternal aunt HRH Salote Mafileʻo Pilolevu Tuita who is ninth in line to the throne, this Tongan practice does not change the order of succession to the throne.[1]
Duties[edit]
Sione Ikamafana represents his Majesty King Tupou VI in an official capacity for both state and family functions.
In 2017 he assisted other members of the royal family in welcoming Tongan mourners during Queen Halaevalu Mataʻaho ʻAhomeʻe's funeral.[5][6]
In a break from royal tradition, Sione Ikamafana along with his younger brother 'Etani Ha'amea Tuku'aho, assisted royal coffin bearers in escorting the Queen mother's body to the royal tombs.[7] Later in March he opened fale alea, Tongas parliament into session.
In March 2017, Sione Ikamafana and his younger brother 'Etani Ha'amea escorted King Tupou VI on a tour to the Northern Islands.[8]
In 2020, Sione Ikamafana attended the opening as Guest of Honour for an art exhibition conducted by Tongan artist Sione Faletau.[9]
