SiteLock, LLC is a privately held website security company headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, United States, with additional offices in Jacksonville, Florida and the Netherlands[2][3]. SiteLock was founded to provide website security solutions to small businesses. The company now provides cybersecurity services like vulnerability scanners and web application firewalls to secure websites from cybercrime.[4]

History[edit]

SiteLock was initially founded in 2008 by Neill Feather, Tomas Gorny and Tracy Conrad.[5] Gorny and Conrad were co-founders of a domain hosting company called iPower when they first met Feather. In 2007, iPower merged with Endurance International Group (EIG), a web hosting company headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts.[6] EIG owns numerous hosting brands including HostGator and Bluehost, and is one of SiteLock’s largest partners.[7]

Gorny and Conrad went on to establish two other major tech companies, Nextiva and UnitedWeb. SiteLock and Nextiva were both brands of UnitedWeb until April of 2018 when SiteLock was acquired by ABRY Partners, a private equity firm based in Boston.[8] Gorny is the current CEO of Nextiva and UnitedWeb.[9]

In 2018, SiteLock ranked No. 1540 on the Inc. 5000 list, noting a 306% revenue growth since 2015.[10]

SiteLock generates an annual revenue range of $43.9 million and has 251 employees (2018).[11]

In February 2019, SiteLock announced Tom Heiser had been appointed chairman and CEO of the company, with Feather transitioning into the role of Chief Innovation Officer.[12] Heiser was formerly the CEO of ClickSoftware and holds a position on the board of directors for Arxan, AtScale and NuSpire.[13][14]

Acquisitions[edit]

In July 2017, SiteLock acquired Patchman, a Dutch startup that offers website vulnerability patching software aimed at web hosting providers.[15] Patchman launched in 2014 and is headquartered in the Netherlands.
