Skandra

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Skandra is the musical project and stage name of American singer-songwriter Alexandra Duparc (born Alexandra Wisner).

Background

At age fifteen, Duparc (then Wisner) joined a band known as The Tints whose lineup included Clara Balzary, daughter of Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. The band recorded an EP that was produced by Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante.[1] From 2004 to 2019 she completed twelve albums,[2] eight of which were released under the project name AKW,[3] taken from her initials. Over the course of the same decade she worked on a number of film scores and in 2015 started a nonprofit organization called Treehouse to promote new artists by hosting performances.[4][5] In 2016, Treehouse evolved into a full-scale music festival.[6] Wisner has also pursued humanitarian causes, including assisting[7] her brother, Brent Wisner, who successfully litigated a $289 million case against agrochemical giant Monsanto over its use of cancer-causing chemicals.[8] On July 9, 2018, she married actor Ylane Duparc.[9]

Musical releases

Skandra began releasing singles in 2020, beginning with "Ghouls and Ghosts" on January 1.[10] In the late spring and summer, she began a series of releases beginning with "Tangerines" on May 29,[11] followed by "Ashes" on June 12. On August 3, Skandra released the single "Rivers" with an associated music video directed by Robin Clive.[12]

The music video for "Rivers" was shot in Paris. Shooting was completed in a day and production required less than two weeks to finish.[13] Duparc and her husband self-financed the production of the video and self-promoted it upon release, generating popularity for the song via TikTok and Spotify.[14][15][16]
