Skribbl.io[edit]

Skribbl.io is a free online multiplayer web game that tasks players to guess the word another player is drawing, similar to Pictionary. It was made by a German game developer known on Twitter as @ticedev and was initially released in 2017.[1][2]

Skribbl.io is one of the social games that attracted a substantial number of players during the pandemic and is regarded as a fun online game to play with friends, as well as a possible activity for team-building.[3] As of June 2022, the web game has had a total of 5.9 million visits.[4]

The game's ticking clock sound is credited to InspectorJ of Freesound.org.[5]

Gameplay[edit]

A complete game has several rounds, the number of which is determined by the player who initiated the game. Every player gets a chance to choose what to draw from a set of three predetermined words, and whatever word they choose has to be correctly guessed via chat by other players in order for them (and the drawing player) to earn points. The player that amasses the highest number of points wins the game.[1]

Updates[edit]

Recent updates by the developer[1] include:

  • New languages, particulary Italian, Estonian, Korean, Hungarian and Tagalog
  • Support of up to 12 players in private rooms
  • Custom words in private rooms
  • Custom drawing time in private rooms
