Search Skug – Journal für Musik on Amazon. Skug - Journal für Musik (skug) is an Austrian music magazine from Vienna. skug stands for subcultural underground.[1] The magazine was published quarterly from 1990 to 2015. After 104 issues, Skug was discontinued as a print magazine in November 2015 and has since continued as an online magazine.[2] Skug is thus the longest-running non-profit music magazine in Austria.[3][4] It covers music from pop to jazz to serious music, as well as all areas of culture, especially film, art and literature, but also politics. Authors of Skug founded the Austrian music archive Skug Research in 1993.
"The Skug consistently reflected the changes in the music world, transforming from guitar-heavy publication to electronic music. Sometimes better, sometimes not so good, but always driven by an ambition that could not be ignored, which was not least to blame for the fact that the
Skug was fondly called the little brother of the German Spex."[5]
As part of Salon skug, monthly events take place in Viennese locations such as rhiz, fluc or Venster99. The salons combine panel discussions on current cultural-political topics with concerts by local artists.[6] With the "Salon skug auf Rädern," the summer dates have been taking place in public spaces since 2021.[7]
