Slavia Orthodoxa

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Slavia Orthodoxa during the East–West Schism.

Slavia Orthodoxa the name of the literary community of Orthodox southern and eastern Slavs from the 9th century until the beginning of the New Age (among Czechs and Poles until the 12th century). The term was introduced in 1958 by the Italian Slavic Riccardo Picchio, and adopted by many modern Slavists.[1]

In parallel with Slavia Orthodoxa, there was a community Slavia Romana or Slavia Latina, which included the western and part of the southern Slavs.[2]

The term reflects the specific cultural and historical space in Eastern Europe that emerged as a result of the Christianization of Bulgaria and the spread of Old Bulgarian writing and literature in Eastern Europe.
