Sleeper PC
From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki
A Sleeper PC is a powerful personal computer built into a retro or antiquated enclosure, usually the case of a computer which has long since been obsoleted. They are usually fitted with high-end graphics cards so that they can be used to play video games with demanding system requirements.
Building Process
Although the ATX standard used by most computers has been largely unaltered since its creation in 1998, early ATX cases may need modifications to allow for components to fit, and to ensure there is enough airflow to prevent thermal throttling. Building a sleeper PC may involve:
- Cutting out holes for the motherboard's inputs and outputs
- Adding adapters into 5.25' (optical) and / or 3.5' (floppy) drive bays to add modern connectivity such as USB 3 and USB-C to the case.
- Drilling mounting holes to allow for more fans and ventilation holes to improve airflow
