Slido

Slido (also known as Sli.do, pronounced Sly-doe) is an online-based audience interaction platform for meetings and events. It enables users to crowdsource top questions, engage participants with live polls and quizzes and collect valuable insights. Slido can be accessed via a web browser on a smartphone, laptop or a tablet and allow for real-time interaction between the presenter and the participants.

Slido’s mission is to help people get the most out of joining a meeting or event, whether it’s in-person, hybrid or virtual. The company, founded in Slovakia by Peter Komorník, became a part of Cisco in May, 2021.[1]

History[edit]

Founded in 2012, Slido started in academia as a simple idea – to help lecturers improve their classes by collecting instant feedback from students. The author of the idea, Peter Komornik, started the company together with the co-founders Peter Slivka, František Krivda and Rastislav Molnár after they won the Startup Weekend hackathon in Bratislava.[2]

The project was supported by three angel investors Anton Zajac, Martin Vaľovský and Ken Ryan.[3]

The company soon gained traction in the conferences industry, as one of its first customers suggested adding a Q&A feature that would allow shy audience members to ask questions at events. Seeing the value Slido brought to the Q&A sessions, the company’s success skyrocketed, securing it a number of technology awards and partnerships with many renowned conferences worldwide.[4]

Slido has since been used to enable two-way conversation at hundreds of thousands of events including world-leading conferences like SXSW, Web Summit, Pulse, Festival of Marketing, Money 20/20, and IMEX.
