Slrrrp is an American beverage brand that became known for its large "tubs" of individual, pre-packaged alcohol and gelatin, colloquially known as Jello shots. Slrrrp has been noted for its broad distribution,[1] novelty flavors,[2] and ability to be stored and consumed without refrigeration.[3] The alcohol-infused shots are made with seaweed gelatin extract,[4] meaning that they're vegetarian-friendly and can maintain form without refrigeration.[5] The company claims their product is "The world's first vegetarian-friendly ready-to-drink alcohol-infused gelatin shot"
Company[edit]
Slrrrp was founded in 2016 in California and is headquartered in Denver, Colorado. Slrrrp has been featured in the Paramount Network series Bar Rescue with host Jon Taffer. The company's product is distributed as "a giant tub" of premade alcohol-infused gelatin shots, which the company sells online.[1]
History[edit]
This section may stray from the topic of the article into the topic of another article, Jello shot. (December 2020) |
The history of the tradition dates back to 1897. The exact origin of the jello shot is unknown, as gelatin and alcohol mixtures predate the commercialization of Jell-O in 1897.
Modern jello shots originated in the 1950s when Jell-O was at the height of its popularity in the United States.
Multiple sources[6][7] attribute the creation of the modern jello shot to American satirist and musician Tom Lehrer, who claimed to have invented the jello shot as a way to circumvent a ban on alcohol at a navy base where he was stationed.
Reviews[edit]
Reviews of Slrrrp have focused on the product's packaging, novelty, and variety of flavors, rather than their quality. One reviewer noted the products had a "fairly strong alcohol character" which had the effect of "giving the experience a certain rawness".[3] Another reviewer called them "not serious cocktails - which is kind the point."[8]
