Snuggly Fox Games is an independent creative collective and video game development group based in Austin, Texas. Founded in early 2026, it operates as a loose, artist-run collective rather than a traditional studio, emphasizing member autonomy and creative freedom across a wide range of genres and styles.
Its founding members live together in a shared space called SnugglyFox House, which serves as both a residence and a creative hub, while regular members are free to participate remotely from anywhere.
History
Snuggly Fox Games was established in early 2026 by three friends who had grown frustrated with the competitive, high-pressure environments common in both traditional game studios and many online creative communities. The founders sought to create a space where artists, programmers, writers, and other creatives could work together without sacrificing personal freedom or burning out.
The idea for the collective emerged from conversations between the three founders throughout 2025. At the time, Maple and Bea were living in or near the New York metropolitan area, while Todd was based in Texas. All three had previously collaborated on smaller personal projects and shared a growing dissatisfaction with “crunch culture” and rigid hierarchies they had encountered in previous work.
By February 2026, the three founders had moved into a large shared house in East Austin, which they named SnugglyFox House. The first few months were spent setting up the space, building basic infrastructure (shared servers, asset libraries, communication tools), and developing the collective’s operating philosophy. Their first public project, a short experimental narrative game, will be released on itch.io in mid-2026.
As of now, Snuggly Fox Games remains a small group, though it continues to accept new contributors on a case-by-case basis when there is mutual interest and a good fit with the existing members.
Projects
Snuggly Fox Games works across a wide spectrum of game types and creative projects. Because there is no enforced house style, releases have varied significantly in genre, tone, scope, and presentation.
Early projects tended to be short, experimental, and highly personal. Later work has included longer narrative experiences, small multiplayer experiments, and hybrid art-game pieces. Some projects are developed primarily by one or two people with occasional input from the wider group, while others involve more active collaboration across disciplines. The collective releases most of its work on itch.io, with occasional ports or expanded versions appearing on other platforms. There is no fixed release schedule; projects are released when the people working on them feel they are ready.
Organization and Structure
Snuggly Fox Games deliberately rejects traditional studio structures. There are no formal bosses, departments, or mandatory production pipelines. Projects are generally initiated by one or two members who then invite others to participate if they are interested. Some projects involve close collaboration across multiple disciplines, while others remain largely solo efforts with occasional group feedback.
The collective maintains shared tools, asset libraries, documentation, and communication channels. Members are free to work on collective projects, their own personal work, or outside commissions at any time. There are no mandatory meetings or deadlines except those agreed upon by the people directly involved in a specific project.
Decision-making is kept informal and consensus-based among those actively working on a given project. The group places strong value on individual autonomy, meaning members retain significant control over their own creative direction and level of involvement.
SnugglyFox House
SnugglyFox House is the physical center of the collective. Located in East Austin, it functions as both the primary residence of the three founding members and a shared creative workspace. The house contains dedicated areas for art production, programming, music, and playtesting, as well as common spaces used for game jams, recording sessions, and casual collaboration.
While the house plays an important role in the group’s identity and day-to-day operations, participation in Snuggly Fox Games does not require living in Austin. Remote members are considered full participants and regularly contribute to projects, discussions, and feedback through the collective’s online platforms.
Key People
Maple Fox (SnugglyFox)
Maple Fox, known online as SnugglyFox, is the primary founder and creative lead of the collective. She is responsible for much of the group’s overall vision, tone, and public identity, with a focus on writing and art direction. She is known for her preference for warm, whimsical, and emotionally resonant work.
Todd Jackson
Todd Jackson is a co-founder and the primary programmer of the collective. He grew up in nearby Cedar Park, Texas. He serves as the technical backbone of the group, responsible for turning ambitious or unconventional ideas into functional games. He is known for his calm demeanor and dry sense of humor.
Bea Rodriguez (TheBouncyBee)
Bea Rodriguez, known online as TheBouncyBee, is a co-founder, visual artist, and character designer. Born and raised in New Jersey, she is responsible for much of the collective’s bolder, more colorful, and visually experimental work. Her presence often pushes the group toward more adventurous visual directions.
Philosophy
Snuggly Fox Games operates according to a set of core values that shape both its creative work and internal dynamics.
The collective places strong emphasis on autonomy, believing that members should retain meaningful ownership over their creative direction. Individuals are free to decide how much or how little they wish to participate in any given project.
Support is another central principle. Members are expected to help one another grow rather than compete, including sharing feedback, resources, and knowledge without unnecessary gatekeeping.
The group prioritizes kindness in its working relationships, aiming to maintain healthy and respectful dynamics even during challenging creative periods. There is a deliberate rejection of toxic or high-pressure working cultures.
Playfulness is considered essential. The collective encourages making things that feel genuinely enjoyable to create, rather than focusing solely on external metrics such as marketability or critical reception.
Flexibility is built into the structure itself. Projects are allowed to form organically, change direction, or be set aside without shame if the people involved lose interest or energy.
Openness refers to the refusal to privilege any single genre, style, or aesthetic. The collective views diversity of approach across different releases as a strength.
Finally, generosity governs how knowledge is handled. The group documents its processes and shares what it learns so that both current and future members can benefit from accumulated experience.
