The Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research, was founded in 1953 and islocated in the Camberg/Taunus. The objective of the organization is the dissemination and promotion of scientific questions in the field of medicinal plants, including research, production, cultivation, breeding and clinical therapy. The task of the GA is to research medicinal plants and biological effects of natural products, to accompany pharmaceutical processes and procedures and the preclinical as well as clinical development of Phytopharmaka and application to humans and animals.[1]

Profile[edit]

The association was established in 1953 as a society for drug research and therapy. The association Verein promotes the science and development of medicinal plants, natural products and phytopharmaceuticals internationally. Its members are predominantly & nbsp; pharmacists, biologists, chemists, biochemists, and physicians. Its activities include various events, such as: The organization of its annual congress, as well as the participation in and support for meetings and workshops in the fields of its purpose. The official organ of the society is the international journal Planta Medica.

Research funding[edit]

In order to promote research in the areas of natural product chemistry, natural product analysis, phytopharmacology, in vitro and in vivo testing, the GA uses its own funding. With the Foundation Plants for Health, the association supports scientific projects in basic research on pharmaceutical Biology.[2] The company awards its own (Egon Stahl Prize) and company-financed prizes (Bionorica Phytoneering Award, Dr. Willmar-Schwabe- Price).
