Sogakofe Senior High School (SOGASCO) is a public mixed-gender senior high school located in Sogakofe in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region of Ghana. The school was established in 1961 under the Ghana Education Trust.[1]
History
The foundation stone of Sogakofe Senior High School was laid on 5 November 1961 by a Member of Parliament who was also the Regional Commissioner for the Volta Region at the time.[1]
The school began with 13 students (nine boys and four girls). Its first Headmaster was Mr E.K. Datsa, who later had a house named after him in recognition of his contributions.[1]
SOGASCO later expanded to include a Basic Education section (kindergarten, primary, and junior high) and served as a campus for diploma and degree programmes through a partner tertiary institution.[1]
Academics
SOGASCO offers programmes in **General Arts**, Science, Business, Home Economics, Visual Arts, and Agriculture. The school emphasises discipline, moral development, and academic excellence in preparation for tertiary education and leadership.[2]
SOGASCO is a **Category A school** and recently participated in the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ), one of Ghana’s premier academic competitions for senior high schools.
Achievements
In October 2023, Sogakofe Senior High School won the Energy Commission (Ghana) Senior High School Renewable Energy Challenge, placing first ahead of competing schools.[3]
The school maintains active clubs and societies, particularly in Arts and Design, to support student creativity and extracurricular engagement.[1]
SOGASCO celebrated its 65th anniversary in 2025 with homecoming events, mentorship sessions, and cultural activities to mark its history and community.[4]

SOGASCO is popularly known as the “Lower Volta Varsity.” The school motto is **"No Cross, No Crown; No Tears, No Diadem."**[1] The official school colour is green.
