History
SolarCorp was founded in 2016 by Canadian entrepreneur Nicholas Rousell[2] to fill a gap in the Canadian solar market for a unified brand-name provider, something the country lacked at the time, and was officially incorporated as Faraday Energy Inc. on August 29th, 2017.[3][4][5]
In October 2017, the Home Battery energy storage product, based on Lithium-ion technology, was announced, with pre-orders promised to be available in the first half of 2018.
As of July 2018, Faraday announced plans to revamp their primary brand and begin selling and installing home automation systems, in addition to solar energy and storage products. This change is planned to be completed by August 2018.
Products, services, and technologies
Residential solar systems
SolarCorp was a pioneer for solar leasing and Power Purchase Agreements in Canada.
Primarily servicing customers with custom designed rooftop systems offered for outright purchase, 20 to 25 year leases, or through Power Purchase Agreements in some areas. The company markets primarily through online advertising, trade shows, and by sponsoring events.
SolarCorp was also one of the first solar contractors in Canada to offer integrated financing options and began accepting franchisee applications in 2017.[6]
Commercial solar systems
In 2017, SolarCorp began marketing larger systems for commercial uses and power generation.[7]
Energy storage
The "Home Battery" energy storage product was originally announced in October 2017 with pre-orders expected to begin in December of the same year. In November, the company updated the product’s information page to reflect a new timeline in which pre-orders would begin in the early half of 2018.[8][9] The product will use Lithium-ion battery cells and be capable of storage up to 14kWh.[9] The product will be available to SolarCorp customers first in a Beta stage[8], however it will also be provided for other solar installers to sell.[8]
Electric vehicle charging
In late 2017, SolarCorp announced plans to launch a small network of electric vehicle charging stations to be offered free-of-charge as part of a broader marketing campaign.[10]
